Preseason Top 25s, Big Recruiting Win For Gus, & Mizzou Scores 17

Gus Malzahn

Been down for the count (sick) for a few days but ready to go this morning with Link Orgy:

Preseason football Top 25 polls are coming out and are quite predictable in most instances:

Dennis Dodd has his preseason Top 25 on CBSSports.com. Bama 1, UGA 3, Auburn 10 and the surprise is State at 11. Also ranked: A&M (21), Florida (22), and a pity-rank for LSU at 25. No Gamecocks – who I think win 10 games this year.

Sporting News came out with their Top 25: State at 24, Gamecocks at 23, LSU at 18 (LOL), Auburn at 8, UGA 3rd and Bama at the top. This one is going to be fun to clown on by the end of the season.

Here’s a breakdown of Georgia receivers from DawgNation. They seem high on this receiving corps but it comes down to Fromm making the throws. I like Riley Ridley at the X but the rest – not so sure about.

auburn

Big day for Auburn as they get 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe to commit. Pappoe is currently ranked 8th nationally in 24/7’s composite rankings.

Two of Pappoe’s HS teammates also announced their commitment to SEC schools: Wanya Morris is heading to Tennessee and Kevin Harris is going to play for the Crimson Tide.

Of the 41 players in the top 100 composite, 19 are committed to SEC schools.

D1Baseball put out their weekly regional projections on Tuesday. The site projects 5 SEC hosts (3 of them being top 8 seeds) and 11 entries overall. LSU is not included in their projection.

The SEC has 7 of the top 16 in the RPI still which should lead to at least 6 host sites if that continues.

Former Missouri Tiger Keyon Dooling opens up about mental illness. It’s a compelling read.

Mizzou baseball went to Iowa City to play the Hawkeyes Tuesday afternoon and a Big Ten football game broke out. It’s probably the wildest baseball game of the season: Iowa scored a run in the 1st, 6 more in the 2nd, another run in the third, five in the 6th, a run in each of the 8th and 9th, and a final run in the 12th … and they still lost 17-16 to Missouri. Mizzou trailed 8-0 and 13-6 but came back for the victory.

Late season, midweek, good weather is the perfect combination for a high-scoring game. The Tigers’ Brett Bond went 5/7 with a walk, Brian Sharp went 4/4 and Chris Cornelius drove in 6 runs in the win.

In other baseball scores: Tennessee lost to Morehead State and Vandy lost at home to Louiville. Aggies pounded on Prairie View as well.

Today, the men’s golf selection show is at 4:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel. I expect 8 SEC teams to make it.

Knox County primaries were held yesterday and it appears the republican nominee will be WWE superstar Kane. Kane was adamant that UT not hire Greg Schiano.

Ryan is a “since birth” fan of LSU and the SEC.

He misses Gorilla Ball, Mike Shula, and his mullet. He asked his prom date out at Waffle House.
