Link Orgy: NFL Draft, SEC Golf, And Arkansas Has A 4-0 Week

Jax Biggers

Final Tally of NFL Draft Picks: Alabama had 12 picked including all starting 11 from the 2016 opener. LSU had 7 players drafted and UGA had 6. The SEC had 53 players taken – ahead of the ACC’s 45.

WALK OFF!

Ok, you don’t really walk-off in golf but it kinda happened at Sea Island. Auburn beat Alabama 3-2 in match-play to claim the SEC men’s golf championship. Freshman Wells Padgett scored the winning point with a 15-foot birdie on the last hole. The NCAA Selection Show is Wednesday and 3 of the six regional sites are in the south including A&M hosting at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

And because I’ll get angry DMs on Twitter if I don’t mention this: Mississippi State beat the Aggies 4-3 to earn their first SEC men’s tennis title since 1996.

The Razorbacks somehow overcame 15 walks on Sunday to sweep Alabama this weekend to take a one-game lead in the SEC West baseball race. Ole Miss is a game back and the Ags are just two-games back. Arkansas goes to Baton Rouge this weekend while OM goes to South Carolina and the Aggies host #1 Florida.

The Omahogs had a 4-0 week including a win over #3 Texas Tech and they should move back into the top 5 in most polls. I think Florida will cede the top spot to Stanford (33-6) this week in D1 and BA. Florida has gone 4-4 in the last 2 weeks.

After slipping in the draft, Derrius Guice has something to prove in Washington. Guice brought a lot of this criticism on himself by airing the alleged questions some teams asked him during the run-up to the draft. Ian Rapoport described him as high maintenance and immature.

The Tigers have gone 1-5 in the SEC the last 2 weekends. Things are so “bad” that the Advocate beat writer is asking if a hard-fought loss can propel the Tigers forward. LSU (26-19, 10-11 SEC) is now effectively out of the West race, 3 games behind Arkansas with just 9 to play (and 3 teams between LSU and the Razorbacks). While this LSU team is young and has battled injuries all season, many Tiger fans with unrealistic expectations find this season unacceptable.

But it’s not the 1990s anymore. Everyone invests in college baseball now and most programs in the SEC have just as nice or nicer facilities than LSU. Combine that fact with just 11.7 scholarships in the sport and LSU will never dominate like it once did. Tiger fans love to hate their coaches and Paul Mainieri is right at the top of the list. Never mind we’re just 10.5 months from his team playing in the championship series.

Ryan is a “since birth” fan of LSU and the SEC.

He misses Gorilla Ball, Mike Shula, and his mullet. He asked his prom date out at Waffle House.
