State Owns The Landsharks, Antonio’s Weed & Ed O’s QB Problem

Governor's Cup

Right into it – loaded down with draft news, Tuesday night baseball, and more:

What’s the crazier Tuesday night result: Florida losing to Mercer or LSU shutting someone out? Both happened on a wild night. Also: Arkansas rebounded to get a home win over #4 Texas Tech (they’ll play again tonight). And little ol’ Mississippi State came back four times on Ole Miss and walked ’em off in the 9th down in Pearl to win the Governors Cup. All of a sudden, the Bulldogs have won 4 in a row and this weekend’s series at Dudy Noble with A&M looks awfully interesting.

Stunning week for Florida baseball. For the first time all year, Florida baseball looks mortal. Tuesday’s loss to the Mercer Bears is their third in the last 5 games. The Gators scored 4 in the bottom of the first but were shut out the rest of the way. Wil Dalton hit his 16th homer of the year (T-3 in the country). UF hosts Auburn starting Thursday. Can Brady Singer get ’em back on track in game one?

Head coach Kevin O’Sullivan announced that freshman Jack Leftwich will start game 3 against Auburn. Tyler Dyson had been in the game-three starting spot but lost his job last weekend due to control issues. Leftwich came out of the pen to relieve Dyson Saturday and threw six scoreless innings against Kentucky.

Antonio Callaway really, really likes to smoke weed. He infamously escaped sexual assault charges his freshman year with a defense of “I was too high to do that.” He’s been cited for possession, involved in the Florida credit card fraud, and now his drug test at the combine has come back diluted.

Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network says that Callaway is claiming he was over-hydrated causing the positive test. With his diluted history, surely teams will give him the benefit of the doubt, right?

Confirming what everyone knew, Ed Orgeron can’t figure out his quarterback situation. Coach O wasn’t expected to name a starter before the end of fall camp but he’s now admitted that the Tigers will play two quarterbacks this fall. Nothing better than a season of indecision.

Oregeron could be coaching for his job come November and having a QB excuse will be one of the crutches he leans on. I think it’s going to be an ugly fall for my Tigers.

Why does LSU lead the country in underclassmen declaring for the draft? Delly presents some good information here. One of the reasons, but certainly not the biggest, that LSU has struggled in recent years is they’ve lost would-be seniors that should have stayed in school.

After sitting out 38 games due to a back injury, Josh Smith returned to the LSU lineup Tuesday. Smith is the heart and soul of this LSU squad and his presence will help a lot. Smith homered in his first game back.

Seasoned OL returns to block for Drew Lock – Mizzou will have one of the most experienced OLs in the conference this year, returning all five starters.

Tennessee fans wanted culture change in Knoxville but were they expecting it to be this drastic?

Jarrett Guarantano improved during spring ball but hasn’t won the QB battle yet. I’ve known new OC Tyson Helton for 20 years going back to his playing days at Houston. Ty developed his cred under June Jones, Jeff Brohm and coaching Sam Darnold to a Pac-12 title and a Rose Bowl win. He will help Guarantano become a more sophisticated passer.

Ryan is a “since birth” fan of LSU and the SEC.

He misses Mike Shula, Curly Hallman, and Jim McElwain’s teeth. Ryan asked his prom date out at Waffle House.
